The Athletic Side of Us (TASOU) Ready-To-Wear Collection SS22

Blending fashion categories and cultural touchstones, the Athletic Side of Us has presented a meaningful collection at this year's New York Fashion Week.

Created by Chuks Collins, the SS22 collection is where athleisure meets ancient civilisation, with the runway show set in Nigeria’s ancient Benin Kingdom. Collins wanted to go beyond any athleisure company on the market, bringing streetwear and activewear together with a touch of couture sensibility.

But the cherry on top is that the brand is also very well versed in sustainability, keeping eco-friendly practices on top of TASOU’s values. All pieces from the collection were made sustainably with low carbon outputs from materials such as plastic bottles, organic cotton, hemp, and repurposed fishnets.

My idea was to do something very forward and comfortable that’s easy to wear, but also very summery and upbeat at the same time. My menswear is inspired by me and what I think about when I pack a backpack for a few days trip.
– TASOU DESIGNER CHUKS COLLINS.

With its New York Fashion Week (NYFW) debut, TASOU is looking to debunk the cultural stereotypes of what activewear can mean for everyone – particularly over the last few months, when activewear is basically the only thing we’ve been wearing. Fusing streetwear and activewear while prioritising functionality, TASOU incorporates everyday life into their collection, combining cultures and chronologies into incredible athleisure wear.
