For fashion aficionados like us, this September 13 marked a new milestone – a beautiful distraction amongst the pandemic lifestyle we’ve been dealing with for the last year and counting. Still, luckily for us, the Americans are starting to get back into our beloved red carpets. This time around, we’re talking about each year’s biggest night of fashion, or the so-called Oscars of Fashion – for more than one reason. This night has A-listers gather together around the most well-known stairs of the Big Apple to attend the star-studded Met Gala, and this year’s was as incredible as ever.
For those unfamiliar with the event, the Met Gala is a fundraising benefit for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. Each year has a theme, and this year’s was In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. What better theme for bringing back the big guns for a red-carpet walk? As Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu Curator in Charge of the Met’s Costume Institute, has explained, ‘American fashion is undergoing a renaissance’ due to social justice and political movements of recent years, making it the ‘time to reexamine American identity and fashion’.
As always, Anna Wintour stands out as a significant figure in the event, with this year’s co-chairs – Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Amanda Gorman, and Naomi Osaka – showing us that 2021’s red carpet embraces diversity, inclusivity, transparency, and sustainability.
We’re so glad to have you back, Met Gala!
Up ahead, scroll through as we round up the best in fashion from the 2021 Met Gala. We know there’s always a lot of talk regarding attendees misunderstanding the topic of the year, or those that take the theme to the extreme; we’re for egalitarian fashion, so we’re just here to share with you our favourite looks, speculations aside.
Now, it’s time for the beauty details. We know the choice of outfit is critical in events like this. Still, if makeup and hair are not on point, it could mean a fashion catastrophe, so we want to highlight the hard work these professionals go through in very tight periods of time.
